Exercise shouldn’t feel easy

In general, it’s good when something feels easy.

That’s why dishwashers and washing machines and cars were invented.

But when it comes to fitness, easier isn’t better.

Our bodies get stronger in response to exercise because of adaptation.

When we force ourselves to move in ways that challenge our muscles, our bodies adapt to the challenge by getting stronger.

If an exercise feels easy, it isn’t challenging your body, so there’s no reason for your body to adapt.

One example of this is cardio endurance.

At Rozzie Fitness, we use Myzone heart-rate monitors to track cardio.

If you use Myzone, you get points based on how hard you work.

The higher your heart-rate as a percentage of your max heart-rate, the more points you get.

When someone has worn their Myzone for a while, they might start to realize that it’s harder to get points.

This isn’t because they aren’t working hard or the device is broken – it’s because they’re getting fitter!

The exercises they were doing before are easier for them now, so their heart-rate doesn’t go as high.

The solution is to find new ways to challenge them – by either making their current exercises harder or finding new exercises.

Once something feels easy, it’s time to make it more challenging.

And we can help with that!

All of our exercise programs are designed to increase in difficulty over time, so you’ll keep making progress year after year.

Because if you’re going to spend your time exercising, you might as well get as much benefit from it as you can.
