Do you pee when you exercise?
Do you pee when you exercise?
This can be an embarrassing topic to discuss, but it’s important.
Because although this symptom is fairly common, especially among women, it’s not normal. It’s caused by pelvic floor dysfunction and can be treated.
If you pee during only certain exercises, stop those exercises until you speak to a pelvic floor specialist.
And if you work with a personal trainer, let them know about your symptoms. Or, if you don’t feel comfortable doing that, ask them to switch out the exercises causing your incontinence.
You can also ask them if they have recommendations for a pelvic floor physical therapist, who can determine the cause of your symptoms and prescribe exercises.
Everyone who’s given birth would probably benefit from seeing a pelvic floor PT. Unfortunately, doctors don’t always make this recommendation to their patients.
But it’s never too late to see one!
We recommend Dr. Julianne Beck of Tidal Physical Therapy and Wellness and Mirah Sand of Sand Pelvic Health and Somatics.
