Pullups and the apocalypse
The pullup is one of the hardest exercises you can do in the gym, because it’s the only exercise where you have to move 100% of your body weight.
(When you do a pushup, you move closer to 70% of your body weight).
We program pullups at Rozzie Fitness because they’re excellent full-body exercises.
They’re also critical for this reason:
If there’s an apocalypse, and you find yourself hanging over a cliff by the tips of your fingers as your friend scrambles out of the crashed car to grab you before you slip . . .
… do you want to rely on your friend to reach you in time?
No!
You want to be able to haul yourself up and over that cliff so you can live to fight another day.
So, how do you get better at pullups?
First, work on them at Rozzie Fitness. We take care of this for you by adding them to your programs.
Second, work on them when you’re not at Rozzie Fitness. To see the most progress with pullups, you should work on them at least three times per week.
This might mean getting a pullup bar for home. If you can’t yet do a full pull-up, just hanging on the bar with your shoulders down and back is good practice. Or doing a scap pullup, where you hang on the bar and then squeeze your shoulder blades together for several reps.
Third, every time you do a pullup, imagine it’s the apocalypse and your life depends on getting over that bar.
It works for me!
