Why?

Exercise is hard.

To get results, you need to push your body past its comfort zone. Then, when you reach a new comfort zone, you need to push past that one. It’s never-ending work.

There are tons of benefits to exercising, which I know you’ve heard a million times.

But at the end of the day, it’s just hard.

So how do you get yourself out of bed in the morning to walk to the gym, when it’s the last thing you want to do?

Focus on why you want to exercise.

Your “why” can be anything that motivates you.

It might be one of the general benefits everyone tells you about. Feeling better emotionally, having less pain during everyday activities, recovering quicker from illness and injury, increasing bone strength, aging well.

It might be something more specific. Having more energy to play with – and setting an example for – your kids or grandkids, feeling like yourself again, fighting off the winter blues, staying healthy so you can play a sport.

I have three primary motivations for working out regularly.

First, I want to set myself up to live longer.

Second, I want to be able to do activities that involve moving around, like improv comedy.

Third, I want to feel more confident.

What’s your “why”?

I’d love to hear it!
