My favorite Halloween movie is terrible

My taste in movies is apparently not normal.

Most of the time, when I finish a movie and think it’s pretty good, I’ll check Rotten Tomatoes and it will have a score of 40% or below.

For example, my favorite Halloween movie, Carved.

In that movie, a pumpkin comes to life and takes revenge on everyone at a historical reenactment village who had participated in pumpkin carving.

It has everything I could want in a movie like this:

People dressed in old-timey clothes,

good special effects,

a tortured romance,

and a satisfying ending that’s surprisingly emotional despite involving a wood chipper.

I’d say my internal score for the movie is 85%.

The Rotten Tomatoes score is 36%.

My takeaway from this discrepancy is that other people disliking a movie has no relation to whether I’ll like it.

The same is true for exercise.

Just because your friend hates going to the gym doesn’t mean you will.

And just because Instagram says you should train for a 5K doesn’t mean you should.

The best form of exercise is the type you’ll enjoy and do consistently, no matter how “popular” it is.

I don’t care that Rotten Tomatoes tells me Carved is a bad movie. I’m still going to watch it over and over.

If I enjoy it, that’s all that matters.
