Challenging yourself

It’s easy to convince yourself you can’t do something when you haven’t tried it.

We have a member who was doing elevated pushups for a long time.

Then one day she tried doing pushups on the ground, and she could do seven of them!

This is super common in the gym.

You’ve been doing an exercise one way for a while, and you’re slowly progressing, but you’re not sure exactly how far you’re able to push yourself.

Well, if there’s an exercise you can safely push yourself on, why not give it a shot?

If you’re doing assisted pullups, try a pullup with less or no assistance.

If you’ve been doing elevated pushups, try a pushup on a lower box or on the ground.

If you’ve been doing bench presses, strategize with your coach about finding a one-rep max.

When you push yourself this way, you’ll likely find a difficulty level you can’t do. That’s okay! Just work backwards until you find a level that’s truly challenging.

You never know how far you can go until you try.
